FINDING A CAMP: To find a pole vault camp in your area, please check with your local University that has a track program. They will usually run camps in the summer. Also, when vaulters graduate, they often hang around and help out (e.g. camps), so even in your local University doesn't currently have vaulters, they may still have some veterans that can be of enormous help. If you know of a camp in your area, please let us know and we will post it here. send to: USAPVAspam@4ace.com -- NOTE: you have to delete the "spam" in that e-mail address. 3 one-week Camp Sessions this summer.
We run our PV camps at GMU through the "Patriot Track and Field
Camp". GMU has the BEST indoor facility in the world (in my
opinion), and consistently produces some of the greatest track athletes
in the world. We are truly lucky to be associated with such a fine
University and Track & Field program.
Poles: PV poles are specifically designed to your height, weight, speed, and ability, and therefore are more customized to your abilities than your underwear. As such, you must bring your own pole (and your own underwear too). If you do not have a pole, we will make every effort to find one for you to borrow, under the explicit understanding that if you damage a borrowed pole in any way, you will purchase a new pole of the owners specification (not necessarily the same pole). Realize that the chances of another athlete having the exact pole you need with the precise length you need, weight rating, and flex number, is highly unlikely.
Cost $150.00 (camp tuition only) -- unbelievable facility - one of
the best in the country.
For registration information, please call (GMU) at
(703)993-3284.
GMU is located at 4400 University Drive Fairfax, VA. Camp is over at
the Track & Field House.
For all GMU information: http://www.gmu.edu GMU is a great University
and has a solid athletic program as well.
Outdoor Camps at GMU
TBD.
Registration Form (click here)
We welcome vaulters of all ages (youngest we've had 4 years old, oldest 81). Parents are welcome to stay, watch, and learn. Coaches welcome too (to vault, or to learn how to coach the vault). We also welcome your parents and coaches (especially new coaches)
that want to learn more about the pole vault to help the athletes they
work with. Our door is open to everyone.
For outdoor camp, 1-week straight, Monday-Wednesday-Friday are big/hard jump days. Tuesday we jump light & watch videos too. Thursday is the hassell meet where we stick-vault short run (55') - and anybody can yell, holler, scream, get-in-your-way, -- try to distract you (without touching you or your pole - or you automatically get the height and they have to run 400m). This builds focus, attention, and aggressiveness on the runway - and no, nobody has ever been hurt in this or any part of our camps - it is one of the most fun things we do in camp. Some camps do gymnastics, vault underwater in a pool, jump up and down on a trampoline -- all we do is vault -- and vault and vault and vault and vault -- higher and higher and higher and higher.
Indoor Camp at GMU
November 18th, 25th, December 2nd, 9th, and 16th.
